MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY HOME ARCHITECTURE

MODERN HOME

Modern design was born in response to architecture in the late 19th century. Modernist architects at the time wanted to break the rules and challenge what was considered traditional design, which included styles such as eclectic, Victorian, Edwardian, and 1920s Art deco. Modern architects decided to create a house that would not have decoration and zest, unlike what could be seen in the most popular house designs of the time. They design homes with large open floor plans, deliberate asymmetries, and powerful horizontal configurations with large rooms with stained glass windows or glass walls. The focus here is on creating a simple home with an emphasis on functionality.

CONTEMPORARY HOME

In contrast, modern architecture is rooted in the “now”. This means, that most of these types of houses are innovative and futuristic. However, the construction of these houses is much more complex than that of modern houses. Their designs are free-form, and artistic, and can produce all kinds of designs that do not respond to time. This house design didn’t really gain attraction until the 1970s, but it is important to remember that architecture didn’t originate from any particular movement or be associated with any particular time, it’s fluid and constantly changing, and it’s gaining popularity today.
